Position Overview
The Communications Manager reports to the Executive Director and is responsible for leading LWF’s communications strategies to support its mission, elevate its visibility, and advance key issue messaging statewide.Thisroleinvolvesoverseeingcommunicationsprojects,managingcontentacrossmultiple platforms, coordinating media outreach, and ensuring LWF’s message is clear, consistent, and impactful.
Key Responsibilities
Issue Messaging: Develop and implement communications strategies that clearly convey LWF’s positions on wildlife conservation, natural resource management, and outdoor recreation issues.
Project Management: Lead and manage communications projects from concept to execution, includingcampaigns,educationalmaterials,newsletters,socialmediainitiatives,andmedia outreachefforts.Coordinatetheworkofcontractors,interns,andvolunteerstoachieveproject and programmatic goals.
Content Creation: Create and manage content for LWF’s website, social media, newsletters, press releases, public presentations, and other channels to advance LWF’s mission and policy priorities.
Media Relations: Build and maintain relationships with press contacts statewide; identify andpursue TV, radio, and other media opportunities to raise LWF’s profile.
Visual and Audio Media: Ensure photos and videos of LWF events and initiatives are captured andsharedinatimelymanner.Collaborateonmultimediacontenttosupportcampaignsand messaging.
Public Messaging: Research, draft, and edit press releases, speeches, talking points, Op-Eds, andletters to the editor that clearly communicate LWF’s positions and priorities.
Stakeholder Coordination: Work closely with staff, volunteers, and external partners to ensure consistentandeffectivemessagingacrossallprograms.
Monitoring and Assessment: Track key message boards, social media groups, and public sentiment to inform communications strategy; periodically provide assessments of trends and audience feedback.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, journalism, or a related field; publicpolicy, political science, or English are also helpful.
3+ years of experience in communications, issue messaging, media relations, and project management,preferablyinanonprofitoradvocacysetting.
Strong knowledge of Louisiana’s wildlife, natural resources, and outdoor recreation (hunting,fishing, paddling, hiking, birding) is preferred.
Demonstrated ability to manage projects, prioritize tasks, and coordinate teams to achieve communicationsandprogramgoals.
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex issues totechnicalandnon-technicalaudiences.
Self-motivated, able to work independently, and comfortable exercising judgment in communicationsandprojectdecisions.
Location and Travel Requirements
The LWF office is in Baton Rouge.
AHybrid work arrangement may be available, determined in consultation with theExecutive Director.
Attendanceatvariousmeetings,legislativesessions,andothereventsisrequired,which may occur in different cities and outside of regular work hours.
Salary and Benefits
$65,000–$70,000 per year
